SCHOOL NEWS:

China Schools will once again participate in the Hannaford Helps Schools Program.  The program will run through December 4th 2008.  When you purchase items at Hannaford that are part of the Helps Schools Program you will receive a coupon for our school.  Please send all coupons to the office.  Thanks for your help with this fundraiser.  We will also be collecting can tabs, Box Tops, and Campbell Soup labels.  We have a 5-gallon water bottle that we are trying to fill this year with can tabs, please help us achieve our goal.

PICTURE RETAKES:  Picture Retakes will be taken on November 20th, starting at 8:30 a.m.

Mrs. Soifer will be available for conferences on Monday, Nov. 24 ONLY, from 4:30-8:00 PM   She looks forward to meeting with all of the parents of her students.  If you will not be here Monday evening, but would like to meet with her another time, please contact her by email: dsoifer@chinaclippers.org, or call CMS at  445-1500 to set up an appointment.  °Gracias!

LIBRARY SCHEDULE DURING CONFERENCES

During the parent/teacher conferences, the library at China Middle School will be open 3:30-7:00 on Thursday, Nov. 20th, and the library at China Primary School will be open 3:30-7:00 on Monday, Nov. 24th.  All are welcome to stop by and meet librarian Delia Mohlie and see the facilities.  New books will also be on display, and lists of the Chickadee Award books and the Maine Student Book Award books will be available for folks interested in those reading programs.  This year's collection of titles is excellent, and might make good gift-giving recommendations.  There will be goodies on hand, so come on in and browse around before or after your meetings.

MUSIC BOOSTER NEWS:

The “Name That Tune” drawing will take place next Monday, the 24th.  Listen this Friday for the final “Name That Tune” song for this trimester.  Remember to put your name on your entry before putting it in the Music Booster box outside the main office.  Each correct entry for this trimester will be eligible to win the drawing.  The winner may choose a gift certificate from Beale’s Video, i-Tunes, Subway, or Bull Moose Music.

We are putting up a bulletin board in the entry hall at CMS.  If you have any photos of chorus and/or band students or events, would you be willing to share them?  We will scan them and return them to you as good as new.  Photos may be dropped off in the front office.  Please include a name and description of the photo on the back.

FOCES  NEWS:

Parent Teacher Conferences:  If you would like to contribute either your food or your time to set up a snack table for the teachers at parent teacher conferences, please let Melanie Crouse know. 

GIFT WRAP ORDERS:  The gift wrap orders should be available for pick-up on Wednesday and Thursday.  Thursday is parent-teacher conferences, so you can pick up your order whenever the school as long as the school is open (until shortly after 7:00). We will need people to help us at both schools on both days.  Contact Melanie Crouse at  randmcrouse@fairpoint.net or 445-5424. Any items not picked up by Friday morning will be sent home with the students.  This puts a huge strain on the bus drivers, so if at all possible, get them picked up before then. 

 

FOCES MEETING AND POSITION OPENING:  The next FOCES meeting will be Thursday, December 11 at 6:30 at the China Middle School library.  We have a spot opening on the FOCES board, so if you are interested in helping out, this is a nice slow time to give it a try.  Contact Melanie Crouse at 445-5424 or randmcrouse@fairpoint.net for more details.

 

CRAFT FAIR THANK YOU:  The Craft Fair was a huge success, and we would like to thank all the parents, staff and community members who worked so hard to make it happen.  There are too many of you to mention, but you know who you are.  The Craft Fair is a huge undertaking, and it couldn't work without everyone pitching in, whether you let us use your classroom, bought things to put in your teacher's basket, made food for the kitchen or bake table, volunteered at the fair, or helped in a myriad of other ways.  And thank you to Bruce Richards for cleaning up after us!  (Not an easy task)

 

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES:  FOCES is putting together some snacks for the teachers during parent teacher conferences.  If you are available to help with that, please contact Melanie Crouse.

 

SURVEYS:  Don’t forget to fill out your survey!  F.O.C.E.S./China Schools has been invited to participate in a research study.  For each participant completing the survey, FOCES will receive $7.00. This survey may take up to 30 minutes of your time and is completely confidential.   Anyone over the age of 18 living around the China area may take the survey, so enlist your friends and family!

COMMUNITY CHOIR:

Ciara Hargrove, China School’s chorus director, is starting a community chorus.  We will meet at 5 p.m. on Mondays (weather permitting) in the CMS music room.  ALL community members are encouraged to join.  Our first venue will be the tree-lighting ceremony at the China Town Office on December 7th.  Our first rehearsal will be next Monday, November 24th at 5:00 p.m. Questions? CHINA RECREATION NEWS:

China Rec Basketball - There will be a meeting on November 19th at 5:30pm at the town office to discuss the upcoming season. Any interested parents and/or coaches are asked to attend. Any questions please call Pete Chamberlain 968-3266.
